Design your own Reebok

With Nike ID, Mi Adidas both offering 'custom' (read templated) designs, Reebok have also started to offer a similar service.

Your Reebok allows users to customise the iconic Reebok classic for the princely sum of around £90! Expensive for something Frank Gallagher might be seen in in an episode of Shameless or can be had for about £20 from Soccer Sports. However, it may float some folks' boats.

Lois Jeans

Lois Jeans are back. The legendary denim and cord manufacturer apparently went bust and is no longer exporting outside of Spain but Prem Clothing have two styles in stock in limited quantities and sizes. Grab yourself a pair by clicking this link.

£80 for the dark denim and £60 for the regular stonewash. Bit on the steep side for the dark denim but they are very very good quality. There is always e-bay for some rather interesting colours if you don't fancy forking out the dosh...

Adidas Stan Smith Tournament Edition

So Adidas have released yet another 'limited' edition re-issue. This time it is the Tournament Edition of their Stan Smiths. Apparently they are finished in premium leather with laser cut branding and come in a special box. Is anyone else getting a bit fed up of limited editions being released every five minutes and in turn spoiling the whole point of something being limited. Collective Disorder

Collective Disorder is a visual history of the evolution of trainers seen from the people who collect, make and enthuse about. The book contains over 280 pages of vintage models from the late sixties up until the early nineties. Presented in it's own slip case it truly is a collectors piece.

Initially printed as a 100 run and sold out in a month in October 2008.

But thanks to Size ? they have commissioned a 2nd edition which does differ slightly from the 1st edition. Due for release by the end of March 2009 they will be showing glimpses on its progress.

Be warned though, it is only a small book. The above pic is deceptive and makes it look like a massive hardback. It's about the size of a large paperback.

Awaydays

"Paul Carty is 19, and bored out of his mind. His mother died a year ago. He lives in middle class suburbia with his silently grieving father and feisty young sister, Molly. Carty works as a junior civil servant and spends all his wages on clubs, records, football and gigs. It's at a Bunnymen gig that he meets Elvis. Elvis changes everything.

He's part of a gang called The Pack. The Pack are notorious; they dress in a cultish, almost effeminate style that's at odds with the boneheads and bootboys they fight against. They have androgynous wedge haircuts worn with Fred Perry shirts, Lois jeans and Adidas Forest Hills training shoes. For as long as he has been going to football, Carty has been fascinated by The Pack. Now Elvis seems to be offering him a way in.

Except he isn't. For all that Carty lionises The Pack, Elvis dilutes his idealism. He warns Carty that these lads are nobodies. Elvis is a council estate romantic, a dreamer with big plans about escaping to Berlin, New York, anywhere... anywhere, so long as Carty comes with him. He's been waiting all his life for someone like Carty, someone he can talk with and relate to about art, music, poetry...suicide. They love the same bands - Magazine, Joy Division, Wire - and think the same way; or so Elvis wants to believe. He's smitten with his new mate and plans the big journeys they'll make together.

But Carty soon gets to know the 'other' Elvis - moody, fatalistic and possessive. He throws as many obstacles as he can in Carty's path, whenever he fears he's losing him. Elvis is all too well aware how badly Carty craves the Pack lifestyle, and tries to keep him away - but in spite of all his warnings, Carty's on a collision course, plunging deeper into their dark and vicious world. Elvis can see how Carty's fascination is blinding him, yet he's powerless to pull him back from the brink. Once he's been on his first awayday and sampled the buzz of random violence, Carty just wants more, more, more...

But Carty is never truly accepted by the gang. He's there on sufferance because his sponsor, the psychotic yet enigmatic Elvis is so revered. Their conflict reaches its crisis as Carty tries harder and harder to impress the wild boys, while Elvis sinks deeper into paranoia and jealousy. Something has to break."

Puma Cabana Racer

Superstar or Supernaff?

I can't decide whether the Adidas Superstar (or Shell Toe) is a good or bad trainer. Probably not match-going trainers as they lack the athletic look that a pair of match-going trainers should have. However, they can work with a pair of loose fitting jeans (G-star Elwoods work well but not the naff ones with the patterns and bits all over them!!!).

The Essential Mix is somewhat of a dance music institution. 2 hours plus of the latest tunes mixed to perfection by top DJs. It has been going for longer than the Duracell Rabbit and caused sales in TDK tapes to increase by eleventy million percent in the early 90s.

Knobbly Knee Contest 2009
